Restaurants: an online presence that makes people want to come

Before walking through your door, many customers look at their phone first: your Google profile, your photos, your menu, your reviews. Here is what matters for a restaurant, and in what order to deal with it.

What your customers look for

  • Today’s opening hours, and whether they can be trusted.
  • Your menu and prices, readable on a phone.
  • Recent photos of the room and the dishes.
  • Reviews, and how you reply to them.
  • A simple way to book or call.

Your priorities, in order

  1. A complete Google Business Profile: opening hours, including special hours, photos, a link to the menu. It is what shows up first. See the Google Business Profile guide.
  2. A menu as a web page, not a PDF: a PDF reads badly on a phone and is harder to keep up to date.
  3. A short website: menu, opening hours, how to get there, booking. Three pages are often enough.
  4. Reviews you ask for from satisfied customers, and a reply to each one.
  5. One social account kept up to date, with your dishes of the moment.

Mistakes we often see

  • Different opening hours on the Google profile, the website and the door.
  • A menu posted as a photo, unreadable and never up to date.
  • A website with no clickable phone number or booking link.
  • Reviews left unanswered.

Frequently asked questions

Does a restaurant need a website if it already has a Google profile?

The profile is enough to be found. The website is there to show the menu, take bookings without a middleman and keep control of your image.

Should you use a booking platform?

That is a business decision: a platform brings visibility but usually takes a commission or a subscription. A direct booking link on your website and profile remains useful either way.
